They should run it up for a vote today around 1 PM.

The U.S. House of Representatives was set on Thursday for a cliffhanger vote to repeal Obamacare, as Republican leaders worked to deliver President Donald Trump a win for one of his top legislative priorities.

House Republican leaders have expressed confidence the bill would pass and several party moderates who previously objected to it got behind it on Wednesday, giving the effort new momentum.

Still, the vote was expected to be close. Even if the measure passes the House, it faces daunting odds in the Senate where Republicans hold a narrower majority.

Republicans plan their – what, 80th?? – whack at repealing or replacing the ACA, with a House vote set for tomorrow.

The U.S. House of Representatives will vote Thursday on a controversial Republican bill that would repeal and replace key parts of Obamacare, the GOP’s majority leader said Wednesday night.

“We’re going tomorrow, yes we are,” said Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

Asked he if had the votes to win passage of the bill, McCarthy told NBC News, “Yes we do.”

“We will pass this bill,” McCarthy said. “I feel great about the [vote] count.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., said several days ago that he would not hold the vote without having those winning votes in hand.

No idea if this is the same plan floated a few months ago and aborted at the last second. Honestly I’m beginning to forget what the law is all about and who these “Republicans” are… We’ll see…

Of course, Speaker Ryan could pull the vote tonight depending on what his magic eight ball says.

The final leg of the French Presidential Election is heating up. Sunday’s vote may decide the fate of the nation, maybe of Europe.

Emmanuel Macron’s majority in the polls is slipping hard and fast as the people consider whether they want an agent of the Rothschild Clan running France. Note: he’s not just a friend or former agent of an associated outfit – He actually worked for the Beast itself.

Last minute endorsements are coming in. The establishment, in Paris and around the Continent, is behind the banker boy wonder. Now, Mrs. Le Pen can boast a far better (and better looking) supporter – Brigitte Bardot.

The French film icon Brigitte Bardot has urged her fellow countrymen not to vote for Emmanuel Macron in France’s presidential election on Sunday, saying you can see his lack of compassion in “the coldness of his steel eyes”.
The animal rights campaigner tweeted to her followers that they should not vote Macron, fearing the situation for animals would deteriorate under his presidency.

“The contempt he gives to animal suffering can be seen in the total lack of empathy reflected in the coldness of his steel eyes.

“Whilst the scandals are increasing, he takes the side of the animal breeders and the hunters against animal rights associations that are fighting with the lobbies that seem to have power over this candidate.”

One of the best-known sex symbols of the 1950s and 1960s, Bardot came out as a supporter of populist candidate Marine Le Pen at the beginning of the year. In a wide-ranging interview with Le Figaro that touched upon cultural issues, Ms. Bardot was asked what she thought of contemporary culture.

“We live in a period when everything is vulgar, ordinary, and mediocre,” Bardot said. “France no longer has the radiance, the majesty it had.”

When asked if she was close to Le Pen’s anti-mass migration party, the Front National, the actress responded:

“I am very patriotic. I was raised by a father and a grandfather who fought for France and instilled in me a love of my homeland. I am not proud of what France is today… I’m not a ‘facho’ [fascist], any more than Marine Le Pen is.”

“Marine Le Pen has the will to take France in hand, to restore borders and give priority to the French.”

brigitte-bardot-2

Wow! Do as she says… The Independent, UK.

The French a priority in France. Who could imagine that?

The endorsements are telling:

The evil globalist establishment and the original criminal banksters support Macron. A nearly blinding beauty, concerned with beauty and love of her people, supports Le Pen. If you don’t side with B.B., you’re worse than a communist.

Europe, State Department, terrorism

The State Department sometimes does American travelers a service by issuing warnings about certain dangerous or unstable regions. They don’t want our citizens stumbling into war zones or third world violence. Thus, it is rather telling they have issued such a statement: warning against travel to … Europe – the entire continent.

The U.S. State Department issued a travel alert for Europe on Monday, saying U.S. citizens should be aware of a continued threat of terrorist attacks throughout the continent.

In the alert, the State Department cited recent incidents in France, Russia, Sweden and the United Kingdom and said Islamic State and al Qaeda “have the ability to plan and execute terrorist attacks in Europe.”

The State Department’s previous travel alert for Europe, issued ahead of the winter holiday season, expired in February. A State Department official said Monday’s alert was not prompted by a specific threat, but rather recognition of the continuing risk of attacks especially ahead of the summer holidays. The alert expires on Sept. 1.

Malls, government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, airports and other locations are all possible targets for attacks, the State Department’s alert said.

budget, Congress, Donald Trump, government

Recently I’ve noted the Kongressional Kicking of the Kan along with the perpetual betrayal of conservative voters by the GOP.

The latest kick puts reality and the federal budget off until September.

President Donald Trump said he’ll sign a bipartisan $1.1 trillion spending bill that largely tracks Democratic priorities and rejects most of his wish list, including funds for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“We’re very happy with it,” the president said Monday in an interview with Bloomberg News. The plan would allocate some new funding for border security, though the funds couldn’t be used to build his promised wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. The president said he will sign the bill if it remains “as we discussed.”

The compromise measure, announced early Monday morning, would keep the government open through the end of September. Under House procedures, a vote could be held as early as Wednesday. The plan drew howls of protest from conservatives.

Howl at the moon if it makes you feel better. But this is the way it is. The Republicans are the Atlanta Falcons of politics. The budget blueprint is blown to smithereens. The tax reforms may happen but they won’t look anything like what was announced. No wall. No spending cuts. No priorities met. War in Syria. War brewing with North Korea, Russia, and half the rest of the world. Healthcare reform may make a comeback – or it may not. ISIS is planning the next domestic attack on the West. Rest assured the debt ceiling will be raised in timely fashion. And then raised again. And again. Over and over, bloated half-measure “budgets” will sail through in order to avoid the dreaded “shutdown”.

More of the same. More of the same. More of the same. Not that it will make any difference but I will probably remind you of all this again just before the next election, the next election when you keep the cycle going.

Howl.

The Killing Chair

Happy May Day 2017! And may all your pole dancing (ha!), birthdays, half-birthdays, and protests be merry and bright. One year ago, today, I made the astringent vow to try to do a post each day during May, 2016. I failed. Sorry. I missed two or three days. Then I missed two more in June, the 3rd and the 12th. However, since June 12, 2016, I have made at least one post, here, every single day.

This little number marks the beginning of the 47th week in a row of unbroken ramblings – quite a change from the olden days of me taking a week or six months off. Heck, four or five days aside, I’ve been consistent for a whole year. And this May makes 29 months without a …. break. BTW, this one is post number 1,200!

Next month is the five-year anniversary of this website. Volume increases aside, not much has changed since the humble beginnings. I still don’t care for government. I love cigars. I still workout. I don’t get the culture. And you seem to like (or at least tolerate) it all. Sometimes we even have special features like this one:

The Killing Chair

I write in a variety of settings: cigar shops, bars, coffee houses, hotel rooms, parks, jail cells, Interstate rest areas, etc., etc., etc. Still, much of what I do happens outside, amidst the flowers, birds, and critters, hunkered down in a battered old wicker chair. It’s the kind of chair that one picks up on the side of the road at night when one thinks no one is looking. Or, at least, that’s how I got mine.

It’s uncomfortable, ugly, and sorely in danger of falling apart. If it were a truck or SUV, I’d drive it.

The thing works for me. I have a similarly disheveled “table” at my side which holds coffee, water, or beer, and the flowerpot saucer that I call a cigar ashtray. A place for every thing and every thing in its place.

_20170501_090521

What follows makes Saint Frances bow his head in sadness…

Like I said, I usually prefer to type out-of-doors. This places me at ease and in close proximity to nature (or what semblance of that we have in the cities). My work is assisted by a number of: birds, bees, spiders, lizards, bats, snakes, stray cats, the infrequent possum, toads and frogs. (I do not enjoy the company of mosquitoes).

My dilapidated chair sits out regardless of whether I’m in it; most times I am not. However it is not necessarily empty. Those aforementioned critters must obviously make use of it during my absences. They, some of them, must like it as I do. They’ve become comfortable with it, in it, familiar.

They say familiarity breeds contempt. In this case it has been downright fatal.

One day – morning or evening I cannot remember – I approached the chair. Come to think of it, it must have been daylight or else I would not have discovered the grizzly scene. In the chair, where I normally sit and ramble half-crazed, there was, that day, a spider. It was a small, brown, wood spider, maybe the size of a nickel. And it was flat – flat as a tiny, nickel-sized pancake.

I surmised that some time prior, likely the night before, the little arachnid had been resting there when I happened along. I don’t look when I sit, I just sit. I sit kind of hard. My butt isn’t nearly as large or heavy as it was five or ten years ago but I still generate some force on landing. Enough force to squash a spider.

Many of you, no doubt, do not care for spiders. I like them. They’re my little eight-legged friends. My consolation is that my little buddy probably didn’t feel anything.

I removed the remains and pondered for a second. An anomaly I concluded. It would certainly never happen again. And it hasn’t. The spiders seem to have wised up following the tragedy. The lizards did not.

Maybe a week after the untimely death of Charlotte my back was hurting. Could have been the day after deadlifts. Could be I’m getting old. Anyway, I placed a small cushion in the back of the chair for lumbar support. It worked well … for me.

Feeling I no longer needed a prop, I picked up the pillow one morning. Murder! There lay a fresh (still soft) lizard corpse. He was a little blue-green fellow, maybe three inches long. I suppose resting between the chair seat and the pillow was warm and comfortable for a cold-blooded beast. Out of the way, concealed from predators, he likely felt at home and happy. He also likely felt the air crushed out of his lungs and the cessation of his heart when I sat down. Unlike the spider, I imagine the lizard may have known what hit him.

I’m an animal liker, not necessarily an animal lover. Still I was saddened by this, another senseless loss. I mourned for the departed the entire half-second it took to chuck him in the bushes carefully lay him to rest.

Now my writing place was beginning to feel like somewhere, something out of a King novel – The Killing Chair! I consulted my daughter about the deaths. She said, “that wasn’t very nice.”

It’s not but it’s not the end of the world. Things happen. Things change. Life goes on – for us at the apex. And I do not have all the facts. It could be that both of these animals were dead before I sat down. Or, they could have chosen suicide by chair squashing. I just don’t know. Honestly, the word count is approaching “1,000” and I need to wrap this up (Congressional stupidity calls).

The point of all this is … well, there is no point. Just a Killing Chair. A place where missives are born and animals go to die.

Perhaps, someday soon, an animal punk-rock band, maybe The Dead Lizards, will come out with a song called “Holiday in the Chair”.

So, you’ve been on the porch for an hour or two,

and you know you’re very small.

Sittin’ in Perrin’s Chair, thinking the world’s fair,

You’ll be dead and you can’t crawl…

You get the point. Wait. There is no point…

Happy May!

Kongress Kicks the Kan

budget, Congress, government, incompetence

Again. Because shutdown.

The US Congress has passed a stop-gap spending bill to keep the government running an extra week.

It will now go to the White House for the president’s signature, and will buy Congress time to reach a deal to fund the government until September.

It came just hours before a funding deadline expired, threatening a second government shutdown in four years.

Republicans were forced to make several concessions, the latest on funding for so-called Obamacare.

A government shutdown would close national parks and monuments, lay off federal employees and delay tax refund payments.

The last shutdown, in 2013, lasted for 17 days.

There was a time, long, long ago, when Congress used to appropriate money for an entire year at a time. Now it’s a chunk here, a chunk there, one week, three weeks, four months, your dollar. The word “incompetent” comes to mind.

The real reason the pols fear a shutdown is that, should one happen and go on too long, the people might realize just how little they needed or missed the government. They can’t have that. And they can’t act responsible. So they kick the can.

The only downside I see to a temporary shutdown is the closing of the Parks. And those, I can tell you from experience, are still accessible. No force field goes up around them. They’re just much, much quieter. Kind of nice.

It would be nice if Trump would veto this one-week measure. He could use it as a “teaching moment” for the idiots on the Hill, maybe for others. Go ahead and shut her down. That won’t happen though.

The can shall be kicked. Again. And then, again later. And again. A day may come when it will be harder to kick or the kicking won’t help. Not that the pols care. Or that most of you notice.

A better approach might be for Congress to leave the can alone and kick the bucket.

An Armed Protest is a Polite Protest

Maybe “polite” isn’t the right word. A non-violent protest – that works better. Vocativ, where they scour the “deep web” with a slight SJW bent, inadvertently made the argument for more guns in civil society (maybe even uncivil too).

Their’s was a story about armed Nazis overrunning a Kentucky town. The reason for the invasion was a little less than clear. The main foci were: there were Nazis; the Nazis were armed; SJWs counter protested; some of the SJWs were also armed. A better title would have been: “Armed Nazis and Armed Communists Share Words in Kentucky”. I suppose a guy based in NYC and Tel Aviv can be forgiven in that regard.

The liberal press always gives the communists a pass. Everyone else is a Nazi. In this case, they were observing actual Nazis – rare. And the rarities were openly armed. They noted that the usual “punch the Nazi” and “100 Nazi scalps” stuff didn’t happen. You don’t punch or scalp people toting AR-15s.

Really there were three armed parties present: the Nazis (real, this time); the communists, and; a legion of police. In this instance I don’t think the cops were necessary to keep the other sides apart. The guns did that. All those weapons and no one was shot or otherwise injured.

Kentucky has rather decent (lax) gun laws – open carry with few strings, etc. Contrast this incident to others from heavily gun-controlled districts. In California and in D.C., where private guns are “bad”, violence and destruction are the norm.

Add an assault rifle or two and suddenly people find a little respect, even if they’re not that respectable. Funny.

D3S_33804203352282

Even with the Swastika tattoo, not too sure about which side this is … not sure about much of anything here… Nick Wagner / Vocativ.

Newsflash for the thugs, criminals, terrorists, and other trash of Amerika: a lot more ordinary, non-tattooed, non-chatting, and better washed people are packing heat than you might think (if you thought). They’re there. They’re concealed. They’re polite. But their patience is beginning to wear thin. Keep it polite if you can; don’t push the envelope much further. Please.

Tackling ISIS: Brit Style

Another potential terrorist attack in London was prevented by good (if tech-spy overkill) policing. A foreign invader, whom I shall name “Abdul”, was tackled to the ground and arrested after being surveilled around Westminster.

The terror suspect who was detained with a ‘rucksack full of knives’ near Parliament square had been tracked on an intricate web of CCTV cameras by police and MI5.

Armed police ‘swarmed like bees’ on the bearded man just before 2.30pm after his concerned family reportedly alerted security services.

Witnesses said the man, who was wearing a tracksuit and trainers, was crossing Whitehall amid the usual crowds of tourists and political staff when a police car suddenly pulled up and officers confronted him, just five weeks after the Westminster terror attack killed that five people.

But, unbeknown to him, the suspect had been tailed from the moment he got off the Underground at St James’s Park – where he had travelled from east London – and headed towards Westminster.

While covert teams trailed him on the ground, a live feed was being sent to control rooms in New Scotland Yard and the MI5’s Thames House before they gave the order for them to swoop in.

“Abdul” smirks the smirk of Jihad. I have some ideas on how to wipe that off… Daily Mail.

Based on recent observations his mistake was the subway. One can’t jump a train onto the sidewalk. He should have rented an SUV or a truck instead. There’s a formula: drive the sidewalks first; stab and slash second, and finish with “Allahu Akbar!” immediately prior to being martyered. Hopefully he won’t get a chance to correct his errors.

Taqiyya this one away.

Dr. Paul isn’t exactly Pamela Anderson but Assange seemed happy with the meeting.

Having blasted the Trump administration for their hyprocritical flip-flop from “loving WikiLeaks” to “arrest Assange,” Ron Paul made his feelings very clear on what this signals: “If we allow this president to declare war on those who tell the truth, we have only ourselves to blame.” Today he sits down with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for a live interview…

“The CIA has been deeply humiliated as a result of our ongoing publications so this is a preemptive move by the CIA to try and discredit our publications and create a new category for Wikileaks and other national security reporters to strip them of First Amendment protections,”
