How To Survive A Nuclear War

Over the weekend, while some fretted about Trump groping hoaxes, felon ball, and “men” wearing makeup, the military went into defense readiness condition “DEFCON” level three. DEFCON 3 is heightened readiness. 5 means no threat. 4 is increased intelligence activity. We appear headed towards 2 – serious preparation for war. DEFCON 1 means war imminent within one hour.

None of this is as important as finding the proper place for personal pronouns against the patriarchy though it is pretty serious business. We’re now closer to nuclear confrontation than we have been in the past sixty years.

weirdal

Christmas at ground zero? Weird Al.

As such I put together this little guide for survival:

Don’t Elect Idiots To High Office

Oops. That ship has sailed. The selection of homicidal maniac politicians has become America’s other national pastime. Go on. Make herstory with Hillary and then move on to:

Live Where The War Isn’t (or Won’t Be)

The odds of war are still pretty low. And, if it happens, it will likely be localized, a regional affair, say in eastern Europe of Syria. A few Russian and American military bases, industrial centers, and communications installations might be hit. Populated areas around those centers might be destroyed. On the positive side, Washington D.C. might cease to exist. Anyway, try not to live in or around places like that.

In the event of all out war, continental America, Europe, and Russian, and maybe some other places are toast. Conceivably, any place with people could be targeted.

Move to Antarctica. On The Beach radiation drift theory aside, that continent will be the safest place on Earth. If you want to eat, bring the food with you. It may be a little chilly. Skiers and snowman enthusiasts will be in paradise.

Alternatively, leaving Earth would be a safe bet. If you have a rocket and sufficient supplies, consider outer space. This may be rather difficult. So….

Go Underground

Deep underground. Ideally, you want about 1,000 feet of rock between you and the outside world. Be prepared to stay down there for a while.

The U.S. used to maintain a system of fallout shelters. The Russians still do. These places will provide no protection against a direct strike but will ease the effects of indirect bombings. Go dig you a hole. Or,

Just Survive

The main dangers of a nuclear blast are: intense heat; extreme pressure, and; radioactive fallout. The first two are inescapable barring the use of some sort of nonexistent EM shielding (or 1,000 feet or granite). The further from the blast, the lower the risk from those.

It is possible that some very few people will endure the fallout without taking extraordinary precaution. Just as some have an inexplicable immunity to lethal diseases, some have higher tolerance to radiation. And the radiation may dissipate faster than expected.

This option requires the least effort (none) but it is a bit of a gamble. Americans love to gamble. So, just think of it as fantasy fallout league. Invite your friends to play. Make up some team names.

***

People wrote up plans like this from the 1950 through the 80s. Happily they were never useful. Hopefully it will be like that this century. Can you imagine the effect of a war on the Pokemon industry? I shutter to think of it.

BONUS! (Items to Hoard)

  • Canned food;
  • Water;
  • Breathable air;
  • Cigars – lots and lots of them;
  • Booze (maybe some dope);
  • A pistol;
  • The neighborhood SJW, a politician or a banker (you’ll need some reason to justify the pistol).

You’re welcome.

Last night’s Great All American High School Football Friday Night Shotgun Raffle was my 800th post here. I forgot that amid the excitement of the evening.

nimbus-image-1476701538323

This weekend I refrained from any criticism of President Obama due to his recent contributions to the cigar world. I suppose all is fair once again though I still thank him. I’ll dedicate that first legal Cuban to his honor.

So, this is post no. 801. I have the SEO skills of a drunken sea otter but I think volume has something to do with it; if we can’t have quality, we’ll have a ton of rambling and such. Seems to be working, whatever it is. I checked my web ranking and I have crossed the threshold into the top 1% of all websites on Earth (over a billion active sites). Technically the traffic is higher than 99.35+% of the web. I think I’ve improved by something like 23,000,000 slots in the past three months – all thanks to you folks.

That’s great. Yet I would like to gun for the top 1% of the top 1%. That’s possible. Maybe in a year or two. I write for some other sites that are pushing closer to that range right now. That in turn pushes my site to a small degree. And, I’m finding that some of that outside work is now being cited by third parties. Every little helps.

SEO or not somehow the word is spreading. Web engine searches lead people here. I mentioned Ivan Throne’s excellent new book the other week and, this weekend, he acknowledged. I’ve promised him a full review here soon – as soon as I finish the book.

And soon I’m going to upgrade to full pro status with WP. For you that should mean more and better, etc.

Thank you and happy Monday! Go to work.

The Washington Post reports on the free-fall collapse of NFL viewership. The phenomenon threatens to take down Big TeeVee as it falls.

Football, America’s biggest prime-time powerhouse, has been thrust into a crisis this fall, with dwindling ratings sparking questions over whether it can remain a gold mine for television in an age when more Americans are abandoning traditional TV.

Network executives have long used the National Football League’s live games as a last line of defense against the rapid growth of “cord-cutting” and on-demand viewing upending the industry.

My long-standing views on television and my recent decision on football are known to my audience. There is nothing wrong, per se, with either. Football is a sport, a simulated 1-hour war in a potential atmosphere of fun. Better that than a real war. TV offers (offered) the potential of idea transmission and entertainment. There is nothing wrong with that.

interactive_tv_zombie

Blog Day Afternoon.

The problems with both institutions came from devolution. I swear both were hi-jacked and weaponized against the people many years ago. Football on television became the worst realization of the tragedy of Plato’s Cave. Now it seems people are turning both off.

The Post says the change came about from people utilizing newer forms of electronic entertainment. I’m not sure the change is for the better. Sure, some must be reading websites like this one, Googling “Plato Cave” and then reading The Republic. Intellectualization is never a bad thing.

Still, I suspect many have only traded one from of trivial control for another. Half of the internet and 98% of cable is dedicated to filth and stupidity.

We now have the ability to comment of the Tweets of Alt-Right pundits, who commented on the comments of traditional pundits, who garnered thoughts about news accounts of insults and general jabber-wacky spouted by other commentators, about the remarks of candidates in some battle royal “debate” between two sides of the same uni-party in a Club-controlled political election.

Others trespass backyards at night looking for a digital cartoon rabbit or gold stars or something.

I suppose all of this beats dodging lions, sacrificing rival tribesmen to the sun gods, or searching for a lightening-sparked fire source. Beats it but not by much.

Allow me to offer up some better alternatives for passing away the free time:

  • Read a book – any book;
  • Write a book – any book;
  • Start a business. This is difficult given the regulatory environment and failure is likely. Still, I know you have some great ideas – something you are good at, that you enjoy, that others will pay for;
  • Call the IRS (800-829-1040): go through all of the robo-options and see how many times they hang up on you. Hours of fun….;
  • Vacation in Cuba and get your cigars on. Thanks, BHO!;
  • Go to the gym – cross-fit, power-lift, body build, treadmill, boxing, old man shuffle – anything, just do it. 70% are flirting with diabetes and the slow death of fast food. Reverse the curse;
  • If you love football, instead of watching it, buy a ball and take the kids to the park and play it;
  • Take a walk in the woods. A slow walk whereby you look at and appreciate exactly what goes on in the greater creation;
  • Write a letter to someone in power asking or telling them to stop a war;
  • Google “Virginia Gallardo dance.” Okay, this might trend towards “filth” but, hey, she’s not hurting anyone and you gotta channel that inner Trump sometime. BTW, gentlemen, once you do this, you may thank me in the comments section;

These are only suggestions.

America, exercise, fitness, government, health, obesity

I read this morning that American school children are among the least fit on the planet – ranking 47th out of 50 scored nations. Such was the conclusion of the British Journal of Sports Medicine in a recent study.

The study measured aerobic capacity using a simple 20 meter run test. Children from Tanzania, Iceland and Estonia took the top placements. Mexico was dead last. Our kids weren’t too far from the Mexicans. Britain’s children placed alongside the Canadians in the middle of the pack.

The British Journal has released similar findings for years as have numerous other organizations. This particular study places, as have others, some of the blame on income inequality. Nations with a wider gap between the truly rich and the poor see an increase in childhood (and adult) obesity. Oddly, the obesity is generally concentrated among the poor.

This trend runs counter to the bulk of the 10,000 year history of settled or civilized human history. Usually the poor are rather thin, being unable to afford adequate foodstuff. This was a universal condition until about 100 years ago and still holds for most of the world. The American poor are among the wealthiest and heaviest poor in the world. The indigent in developing nations are rarely overweight.

I think there are three answers to this riddle. The first two have to do with societal evolution, particularly in the first world. One: our modern lives are more sedentary than they used to be. Consumed calories are not burned efficiently. Two: science and capitalism have given us an abundance of easy, fast, relatively cheap, but less-than-healthy quantity of food. Three: our government subsidizes the consumption of the junk food, especially among the poor.

The first factor is something individuals will need to address as time progresses. As the robots take over the workforce people will need to adopt other means of exercise. This may be a golden opportunity for some fun.

The second will likely work itself out. Humanity has never experienced food production and distribution such as we see now. Invariably, quality should overtake quantity as the new systems mature.

The last factor is perhaps the most troubling. Governments supply people with food not out of kindness but, rather, from a desire to control the population. Handouts breed dependency and docile conditioning – and obesity. This has to be part of the grand scheme of the elite.

The problems for Americans have grown considerably over the past 30-40 years. Our children mirror our adults. Today 70% of all Americans are either overweight or obese. This is a hefty and growing problem. The solutions, in and of themselves, are very simple: eat less, move more. The application, bound by conditioning and psychology, are more difficult.

Even if one breaks away from the expectations of sloth and fast food corpulence, one may still have problems. Overzealous attention to fitness can lead to problems. As I noted yesterday, my attention to extreme anaerobic strength has left me nearly crippled today. My daily venture from the bed to the coffee pot took about 20 minutes this morning. I have the sensation that a shovel is lodged in the small of my back.

pwww-101130641_std

Standing, sitting, moving, and resting are painful. Instant relief is afforded only by elevating my knees while lying down and,simultaneously placing my lower back in traction. This is difficult and unsustainable. Fortunately the body and mind become accustomed to pain. And the pain never lasts long. And from it comes new strength.

For now, Advil is a dear friend. I also consider alternative pain relief.

One good thing about an acute injury is that it immediately takes away other, minor pains. I had a strain in my bicep and a catch in my neck. Both were aggravating. Now? Ha! Can’t even notice them. There’s always something to be grateful for.

So it is with our slow, weak, and bloated society. 70% in bad health means that 70% can enjoy marked improvements. I hope they do, I think they can.

Now, where’s my walker?

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” Jesus Christ, Matthew 7:15 (KJV).

Three and a half years ago the wolves pondered ravening against the Catholic Church in America. Wikileaks revealed that current HRC Hitman John Podesta and Sandy Newman of Voices for Communism discussed destroying the Church.

This whole controversy with the bishops opposing contraceptive coverage even > though 98% of Catholic women (and their conjugal partners) have used > contraception has me thinking . . . There needs to be a Catholic Spring, in > which Catholics themselves demand the end of a middle ages dictatorship and > the beginning of a little democracy and respect for gender equality in the > Catholic church. Is contraceptive coverage an issue around which that could > happen. The Bishops will undoubtedly continue the fight. Does the Catholic > Hospital Association support of the Administration’s new policy, together > with “the 98%” create an opportunity?

– Newman to Podesta, 2/10/12.

The whole exchange (and so much more) can be viewed here, thanks to Wikileaks.

nimbus-image-1476317506175

Wikileaks.

The plot failed to materialize thanks to a lack of leadership. At the time the leadership was busy arming ISIS and looting Libya for the banksters.

As an aside, I found via Wiki a quasi-funny email about the Libyan money too. It had the ring of a Nigerian “Prince” solicitation. Some schmuck in Libya “representing” the interests of the late Gaddafi desperately tried to get a small percentage of the stolen money back. He offered the various banksters a 40/60 split on any returned funds. You can’t con the ultimate and original con men. That money’s gone like the Old Republic. Ha!

Back to the con men, the liars, the wolves in sheep’s clothing and their failed coup against the Church: this raises interesting questions and points:

  • Why hasn’t the Church jumped all over this?
  • What happened to the separation between church and state the liberals always jibber about?
  • If you’re Catholic (or merely of any Christian faith) these people think of you as peasants from the Middle Ages, beholden to your secular lords.
  • They would supplant themselves in place of those lords.
  • They would supplant The Lord with their dark, fallen version.
  • They have no concept of faith beyond earthly power.
  • The Church existed over 1,700+ years before the United States formed.
  • The Church is founded on laws eternal.
  • The U.S. is founded on lies, fraud and force.
  • The Church was still around when the Old Republic fell (recently).
  • The Church will endure long after the Empire is forgotten.
  • If you value freedom and Holy worship, unfettered, then keep your church as far away from the government (any and all) as humanly possible.
  • Let this little peek serve as a warning, be forever vigilant.

The wolves are always around, posing as sheep. The wolves are always hungry. Fortunately, they will always, ultimately, fail.

*Note: Some have asked why I, a Catholic, here quote generally from the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, a Protestant edition to be sure. Answer: I like it; it is artful and beautiful. The deuterocanonical books are included therein, in apocraphal format.

America, politics, reality, Russia, stupid, War

The world is an interesting place. It’s so complex and faceted that one could almost be lulled into belief in “reality.”

Divergence of the reality happens daily with our: two-sided single political party; left/right media, and; Democrat/Republican friendships.

The attention of the left/Democrat fact is right now centered on Donald Trump’s (old) comments about lewd women. “He’s a sexual predator,” they say. In addition to his words, they have a NY court case to point out. It is a transfer from CA. The discovery clock is ticking and the deposition of the plaintiff is noteworthy, chiefly because the plaintiff doesn’t exist. No matter. And it doesn’t matter; everyone knows how Trump acts and thinks. And they defended the same things done by their guy, Clinton, in the 90s.

The attention of the right/Republican crowd is now centered on Hillary Clinton’s corruption at State and in her campaign. “Put her in jail,” they say. They also have a large web of connexions (Yes, I went English with the “x”) between Hillary, State, The DNC, the DOJ, etc. None of this matters either. Everyone knows politics and government are corrupted to the point where corruption is the defining characteristic. And they defended the same things done by their guy, Reagan, in the 80s.

There are other things these people could focus on, like:

  • The fact that the U.S. is utterly bankrupt;
  • The U.S. is 100% controlled by a small clique of international criminals;
  • A major invasion of the West is currently underway; and
  • Strong potential for (pointless) war builds with Russia.

But, never let actual reality get in the way of tabloid nonsense.

Whitney sang that, “the children are our future.” They are. So, let us look at the divergent interest in and of the children in the context of the mixed modern reality – from perspectives Russian and American.

The Russians are recalling their university students, abroad, home – immediately, given the possibility of war and the diplomatic failings in and around Syria. They’re also calling home their retirees. I would say war is a rather far-fetched prospect except that there is one right now and both sides are in it. Escalation is what we (the sane) hope to avoid. The student recall has a political/nationalist angle but it does show Moscow is taking this seriously. They are a serious people.

Americans are a foolish people. Our university students, from out the safe spaces, still cry about what Milo is saying on campus. And the crying of late comes from Bama not Berkeley or UMass or Yale. Things aren’t what they used to be in Tuscaloosa. Never mind that nuclear war thing, there’s a dangerous faggot on the loose!

Fortunately Saturday will bring another round of felon ball and attentions will further divert. Progress, some say.

A cursory look around the news tonight followed by a little story with big potential:

BREXIT came too late. The Brits have cracked. Men in London are now paying a £1,000 a year for virtual nagging, saying “it makes things feel normal.” Sad. A once great people.

In America the corruption continues unabated. The same Department of Justice [SIC] that refuses to prosecute Cabinet level corruption and politically connected arms dealers also refuses to enforce certain federal laws, like those concerning immigration. But the same government will prosecute a sheriff who does enforce the law. Justice? Just Us.

The Good News

Comes from the Philippines.

President Duterte is a loose cannon, funny until today. He now moves to impose one of the strictest smoking bans in the world on his people. One can only assume this includes cigar lovers. And, this may portend a complete ban on the leaf in the future.

That’s bad for them but, maybe, good for us. The Philippines gets a smaller allotment of Cubans but they do get them. Real cigars, not the Caribbean American tourist garbage and so many fakes. We should do all we can to prompt Crazy Man into a full ban. That will open up a Cuban market source for us once President Giant Meteor does away with the stupid embargo a little later next year.

bolivar-petit-libertador-b

Why exclusive to the Frogs!? Maybe, just maybe, here soon. The Cigar Inspector.

Hope and Change? No. Hope and Smokes.

PS: I’m in the heart of The Nine Laws by Ivan Throne right now. It is an excellent work and I may have to do a review of two. I definitely recommend it.

Another survey showed that Americans, by and large, have no money. 70% have virtually no savings and 34% have $0 held back. It is, after all, hard to save what doesn’t exist.

Still, overall (and it’s a stretch), America ranks about where it has economically for the past ten years or so. The nation came in at Number 11 in this year’s Economic Freedom Index by the Heritage Foundation.

The rankings always jump out at me. This year both the top set and the bottom caught my eye.

Look at the “free” economies:

nimbus-image-1476028100397

Heritage.

The all have a few things in common if you think about it. So do those countries at the bottom, generally not even worth considering:

nimbus-image-1476028137624

Heritage.

With the exception of two of those “lowest” countries, the rest all have something in common. You can probably guess what it is. Sudan almost falls in with the majority; Liechtenstein is in a class all its own.

I may be back with more on this later. Think about it for now. These things are all interconnected and relate to issues far beyond mere money.

Now, if you don’t feel like thinking at all: I understand that multiple sets of overweight, low-IQ, pink-clad felons will be kneeling, fisting, and grabbing each other today on the TeeVee. Some call it entertainment.

Donald Trump said made some lewd comments about women in 2005. Or, was it comments about lewd women? He did preface, qualify, if you will, what he said with “if you’re a star, they let you get away with it.” He’s a star and they, the women, do let him and other stars get away with it. Certain women live to hang around celebrities and mine for easy gold. Certain men willingly facilitate.

Trump has lived like this for most of (maybe all of) his adult life. He’s rich, popular, an alpha male’s alpha male, and a playboy. He does it because he can.

Regardless, many are not happy. Some, even within the GOP, have called on Trump to drop out of the race, even at such a late hour. Others run the risk of looking a lot like hypocrites for defending Trump’s declarations (locker-room banter, chaps, nothing more) while previously condemning the same activity when committed by people named Wiener or Clinton.

Speaking of the Clintons, news came the same day that Hillary has made some disturbing comments of her own. Particularly, we have transcripts, once secret, from some of her (expensive) talks with Goldman Sachs executives. Her statements, then, were somewhat qualified as well.

She was Secretary of State from 2009 until 2013. In 2o11, the U.S., the U.K. and a few other countries plotted to get rid of Libya’s Gaddafi. The reasons were two-fold. First, the U.S. needed to arm its creations, ISIS and al-CIA-da, and it needed to do so covertly. Second, Gaddafi had approximately $200 Billion just sitting around; someone needed to grab it.

Backed by the CIA, the U.K. and France escalated the small Libyan civil war, which resulted in Gaddafi’s ouster and murder. Under cover, and approved by the Secretary, arms sales commenced region-wide. They continue now.

Hillary spoke to Goldman in 2013 as part of her part in the 2011 arrangement to round up the $200 Billion – the talks were for a portion of her compensation. There was an illicit transnational agreement to “share” the money. But! Treason! Those greedy Brits swooped in and stole all of it. It went into a “trust fund” – as in, you will never see this money again, TRUST us – in the name of the Libyan people. The Bank of England holds the cash in London and likely will forever.

Goldman was supposed to, allegedly, get some percentage of the money. They didn’t and they sued for recovery in England (where the money is). They will likely receive a $1 – 2 Billion settlement soon. The Brits will keep the lion’s share. Gaddafi is dead. The people of Libya are broke, leaderless, and besieged by terrorists. Turmoil reigns across the Middle East. Hillary is the Democratic nominee for President.

Some, even within the DNC, have called for her to step down, even at this late hour. Others risk looking a lot like hypocrites for defending Clinton (smart woman gettin’ paid!) while previously condemning similar actions committed by people named Bush or Hitler.

My point here is that none of this seems very presidential. I agree with those who say the candidates should step aside. In fact, let’s see if we can run for four years without an Executive. Heck, if that works, we can try scrapping the whole government. Spain is experimenting with this concept right now with encouraging results.

nimbus-image-1475973067756

Otherwise, your choices are: filth and near certain, potential corruption or filth and proven, systemic corruption. Good luck with that.

Turning Laziness Into Power

Maybe I’m not as lazy as I thought. Or, if I am, maybe it’s a good thing. I don’t know. Read on.

This morning I found a recent Forbes article about 10 Things Mentally Strong People Won’t Do. It’s worth a read. It starts with this story of determination:

Thomas Edison provides an interesting example. When his factory burned to the ground in 1914, destroying one-of-a-kind prototypes and causing $23 million in damage, Edison’s response was simple:

“Thank goodness all our mistakes were burned up. Now we can start fresh again.”

That’s beyond “never give up”. That’s where you can’t even be placed in a give up situation.

The 10 Things are:

1. They don’t dwell on mistakes.

2. They don’t hang around negative people.

3. They don’t stop believing in themselves.

4. They don’t wait for an apology to forgive.

5. They don’t feel sorry for themselves.

6. They don’t hold grudges.

7. They won’t let anyone limit their joy…

8. …and they don’t limit the joy of others.

9. They don’t get lazy.

10. They don’t get negative.

For right now, I’m looking at number 9, laziness. The example the article gives of laziness/counter-laziness is:

A study conducted at the Eastern Ontario Research Institute found that people who exercised twice a week for 10 weeks felt more socially, intellectually, and athletically competent. They also rated their body image and self-esteem higher. Best of all, rather than the physical changes in their bodies being responsible for the uptick in confidence, which is key to mental toughness, it was the immediate, endorphin-fueled positivity from exercise that made all the difference.

Exercise twice a week? A week? I sometimes feel down and out if I don’t exercise twice in a single day. Two days without physical activity and I start to develop neurosis. I have to start mentally justifying things to myself – even if the underlying reasons are real and obvious – “You strained you bicep. Slow down or you’ll tear it and be out for weeks. Strains and tears heal stronger. It’ll work out.” – and so on.

And the exercising I do is a little different than that of others. Many men seem content if they can bench press their body weight – which, generally speaking, is a good standard. However, I feel like a slug if I can’t (double arm) curl my own weight.

One of my gyms has sixteen 200-pound heavy bags. Well, 15 right now, I got a little carried away. 98% of the members pretend these things don’t exist. The few of the rest do as most – they pretend their in a fight with one of the bags. It’s a great workout. I pretend to mercilessly brutalize the whole gang.

In work, I usually write 2,000 – 5,000 words per day, everyday. Some you read here, some you can’t, and some are for other people. The days come by when I only do 1,000 words. I feel kind of lazy then. But most people don’t type 1,000, tweets and texts aside, in a year.

So, I’m thinking maybe I’m not that lazy. And maybe I am. And I like it. And I don’t.

People love to liken themselves to animals: sheep, sheepdogs and wolves are very popular choices. I like the tiger concept. Large, sleek, and solitary, cute like a kitten, but menacing. Tigers are extraordinarily lazy by design. Almost all of their time is spent lying around. They sleep, yawn, blog, and loaf the hours away. They can afford the lifestyle because, when needed and suddenly, they’re the most dangerous thing in the forest. And there’s nothing the sheep, dogs and wolves can do about it. And the tigers are beyond it all.

siberian-tiger-gazzing

Why yes, I’ze lazy. Say, you lookz appetizing.

Meandering on through the internets I found Vox’s recommendation for a new book: The Nine Laws by Ivan Throne, published by Vox’s Castalia House. It looks like the Forbes article, in manual form and on steroids. Sayeth the Amazon:

Do you dare to discover what you’re truly capable of?

THE NINE LAWS is your living manual of power, distilled for you by the man who was forced to build it to survive. The author forged this system over decades of cruel experience. It began with profound trauma in early childhood, shaped itself during long training in the eastern warrior arts, and was polished amidst financial industry competition and family crisis. Master this content, and deliver yourself to a place that few men ever reach: joyous mastery of your own fate.

This book is not for the uncertain or the timid. THE NINE LAWS is designed for men who are acutely aware that one lifetime is all they have to pursue and achieve their sacred purpose. Far more than a mere self-help book, or a simple collection of advice and ideas, The Nine Laws is a gravely serious operating system for success in a dark world.

Read it. Train it. Live it. Survive the dark world with momentous ferocity, and triumph.

Ivan Throne is a business manager, author and seasoned veteran of the financial industry with over thirty years of study in the classical Japanese military fighting arts.
